WeLoveU Volunteers Remove Litter From Redwood Road in Utah

On Sunday, July 11, 2021, around 50 volunteers of the WeLoveU Foundation in Utah gathered to remove plastic and litter along Redwood Road that accumulated during COVID-19.  As restrictions loosen and people begin to jump back into their previous routines, the volunteers partnered with West Valley City to hold a cleanup off the 201 freeway exit.

During 2020, the city could only conduct two cleanups because of social distancing restrictions. As a result, masks, plastic containers, bottles, and other waste began to pile up along the roads. Hence, the WeLoveU Foundation launched the 2021 Clean WORLD Movement: Eliminating Waste Accumulated From COVID-19 campaign. And in Utah, volunteers jumped onboard to clean one of West Valley City’s most popular freeway exits at 9 a.m.

The volunteers removed dead trees, pulled up stubborn weeds, and picked up various pieces of trash and plastics that would cause more harm to the environment if left alone. As a result, WeLoveU volunteers were able to collect about 300 pounds of trash. Though it was a small act, onlookers cheered the volunteers on and expressed their gratitude as they passed by.

“It’s amazing the difference this organization has made in this area,” said Darin Nerdin, forestry supervisor from West Valley City. “It makes a better experience for those passing by here and walking along the sidewalk. With the pandemic last year, we had few volunteer groups, and this help truly makes a difference.”

The city is appreciative of the help and looks forward to continuing a relationship with the WeLoveU Foundation. WeLoveU volunteers will continue making efforts toward a brighter and cleaner world.
