70 WeLoveU Volunteers Collect Nearly 1,000 Lbs. of Litter at Richard A. Rutkowski Park

On July 11, 2021, at 11 a.m., 70 volunteers of the International WeLoveU Foundation cleaned Richard A. Rutkowski Park in Bayonne, New Jersey. The WeLoveU Foundation volunteers picked up everything from litter, debris, garbage, and metal objects. A total of 25 garbage bags were collected, estimating around 1,000 pounds of litter.

In honor of the United Nations declaration of the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, WeLoveU organized cleanups between June and July. The cleanups were not in New Jersey alone but across the U.S. to restore various ecosystems neglected and damaged due to the pandemic.

Councilman At-Large Perez Welcomes WeLoveU

In attendance was Bayonne Councilman At-Large Juan M. Perez. He expressed his appreciation for the volunteers’ efforts, highlighting the importance of this event.

“Pollution is one bad issue that we [in Bayonne] have. This [cleanup] is wonderful because a lot of people don’t normally volunteer here. We have these individuals with a big heart to come to my city, well, our city, and clean up. This is wonderful and really appreciated by all the people of Bayonne.” He continued by saying, “I want to say thank you very much. Thank you for coming here. And from the Mayor of Bayonne and the City Council, we welcome you, we love you, and thank you from our hearts.”

About Richard A. Rutkowski Park

Richard A. Rutkowski Park, also known as Waterfront Park and Environmental Walkway, is a well-known park bordering Bayonne and Jersey City. It’s a 40-acre wetlands preservation located north of the Stephen R. Gregg Hudson County Park.

Due to social distancing restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteer activities were canceled or postponed. As a result, garbage accumulated in community landmarks such as the Richard A. Rutkowski Park, deeming it an eyesore and concern to residents. In response to this, the International WeLoveU Foundation is making great strides to clean streets and parks that reopened for friends and families to gather together again.

The volunteers from the International WeLoveU Foundation will continue to address the needs of the City of Bayonne as well as the surrounding areas to ensure a cleaner and brighter world.
