WeLoveU Volunteers Clean Omaha’s Standing Bear Lake

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, 40 WeLoveU Foundation volunteers, partnering with Keep Omaha Beautiful, came together to share the love of a mother in Nebraska. Arriving at Standing Bear Lake, the group came equipped with trash grabbers and bags and a determination to clean up as much trash as possible in commemoration of World Environment Day.

Fishing for Trash

On this hot and humid Sunday morning, Standing Bear Lake, a popular fishing spot typically filled with families and people looking for a catch, was filled with WeLoveU volunteers who were also eager to reel in a big catch of their own. Wearing smiles as bright as their green and blue shirts, the volunteers spread throughout the recreational area, searching along the shoreline and the park for any garbage they could find. In the end, the volunteers collected 27 bags of waste, a couple of broken fishing rods, and forgotten lawn chairs.

World Environment Day

The cleanup was organized in honor of World Environment Day, highlighting the necessity of tackling climate change. In conjunction, it was also a part of WeLoveU’s broader Clean WORLD Movement, an environmental protection initiative taking place throughout the globe to improve lives and protect the well-being of all inhabitants of the Earth.

The WeLoveU Foundation, associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications, understands the importance of raising awareness and acting to make a difference locally, nationally, and internationally.

In 2009, WeLoveU’s Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah initiated the Clean WORLD Movement with the determination to have a clean world for the present and future generations. From then on, over 1,690 cleanups have been conducted with more than 267,000 participants in 59 countries. As WeLoveU is no stranger to cleanups, volunteers were delighted to come together to make efforts for the well-being of the environment.

Geez! I too am guilty of. It thinking about the trash or items I may leave behind while having a good time. I never knew it could affect the climate. I learned something new.

Thank you so much WeLoveU Foundation for taking the steps with smiles on your faces to clean our lakes and communities. It definitely means the world.

    Keep up the awesome work.

  2. That’s wonderful work all the volunteers did. It starts with one person with a vision and small efforts that start a movement like this all around the world. Keep up all the great works! Taking care of our water ways is definitely a huge contribution for our wildlife and community to enjoy!
