Donating Blood to Save Lives in South Amboy, New Jersey

On February 28, 2021, the International WeLoveU Foundation hosted a blood drive in South Amboy, New Jersey, partnering with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the YMCA. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there is an urgent need for donors to give blood, platelets, or plasma to help fight against the virus and other health-related needs.

On top of that, more than 50,000 blood drives have been canceled in the U.S., causing a national blood shortage. In response to the urgent need for blood donations, WeLoveU hosted blood drives across the U.S. as part of the National Blood Drive campaign to aid blood centers and hospitals facing extreme shortages and blood supply.

A total of 90 volunteers registered to donate blood on Sunday at the YMCA in South Amboy, NJ. Out of the 90 volunteers, 78 were qualified donors. As a result, 54 whole blood units were collected. The following units of blood were collected: one packed red cell unit, six plasma units, and 13 whole blood units.

To avoid crowding, donors adhered to their scheduled appointment times and maintained physical distancing. Additionally, all participants had their temperatures checked, and sanitizing stations were in place. These guidelines helped provide a comfortable and safe environment for all staff, volunteers, and donors.

The Gift of Life Is in Blood

Those who participated in the blood drive expressed their gratitude.

“Our heartfelt appreciation for another successful blood drive with the WeLoveU Foundation, all the volunteers and donors for a gift of life,” said Kashmira Patel, Transfusion Medicine Director at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Patel continued to express her appreciation. “You bring a lot of energy and hard work in making these drives great success. The numbers below are outstanding, especially in light of the current environment, inclement weather, and shortages. Looking forward to your continuous support.”

The WeLoveU Foundation continues to host blood drives to save many lives through small efforts of donating blood. Read about WeLoveU’s partnership with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the South YMCA during the One-Two Blood Drive Movement.

I felt the warm atmosphere participating in this blood drive event. Everyone was smiling, and focus to ensure the safety of everyone. I was able was able to donate platelets for the first time ever and knowing how impactful it is to donate platelets really moved my heart.
International WeLoveU Foundation members worked together with the staff and Robert Wood Johnson wonderfully. Can’t wait to donate again.

  3. What a wonderful event! The staff and volunteers were super friendly and smiling the entire time making the donors feel very comfortable!

Overall, well organized event from beginning to the end! It felt great to be involved and help our community that Sunday. Will definitely return next year!

  4. I am glad I was able to participate in this blood drive. I was unaware that many blood drives were being cancelled due to the pandemic, so hearing that fact while donating made the experience even more valuable.

Also, the technicians informed me of all the benefits the blood donation would have for someone in need of the blood I was sharing, I felt bad that I didn’t think of donating more often.

I’m glad WeLoveU gave me this opportunity to be a good person & a moment to think and put into action of helping others.

    Definitely was a great experience!

  5. Thank you to WeLove U for organizing this blood drive. Excellent results at a time when the local and national blood supply was in peril. Many lives will be saved as a result of your commitment.
