Saving Lives in Farmington Hills

On February 28, 2021, the International WeLoveU Foundation teamed up with Versiti to host a blood drive at Delta Hotels Marriott in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The blood drive, an essential healthcare service during the pandemic, is part of WeLoveU’s National Blood Drive campaign.

About 30 WeLoveU volunteers took the lead in providing vital life-saving blood to the Detroit metropolitan area. Commonly referred to as Metro Detriot, the COVID-19 outbreak deeply impacted the surrounding communities.

Reports of blood shortages increased due to the pandemic and the crisis amplified by recent severe winter weather. The American Association Blood Bank reported a loss of more than 25,000 donations in February alone because of power outages or severe weather conditions.

Giving Blood in a Positive and Safe Atmosphere

In response to the need for blood donations, WeLoveU takes action to hosts blood drives across the nation. Following the CDC guidelines, donors pre-registered for the blood drive in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m., the turnout for the blood drive eclipsed expectations. Multiple donors arrived after watching the local news report the blood drive.

Joyful cheering, upbeat music, and whimsical decorations delighted the Versiti staff and donors. The WeLoveU volunteers’ spirit also moved hotel staff and guests, initially unaware of the event, to participate in the effort to save lives. Altogether, 42 blood units were donated, resulting in potentially saving 126 lives!

Area Vice President and Director of Donor Services at Versiti Dawn Kaiser expressed, “What a privilege to join the WeLoveU Foundation today at an enjoyable blood drive. I felt the love! We love you!”

Volunteers hope to continue supporting their Metro Detroit family through more activities like the blood drive and other initiatives.
