WeLoveU Partners With Mutual Services Blood Bank in Puerto Rico

Blood is essential for life. Unfortunately, facilities face blood shortages and are running low on their supply for patients who need it most. To help replenish the blood supply nationwide, WeLoveU launched a national blood donation campaign, and volunteers in Puerto Rico joined the movement. The campaign’s slogan is “donate blood to donate love.”

The National Blood Drive Comes To Puerto Rico

On Sunday, February 7, 2021, WeLoveU teamed up with Mutual Services Blood Bank to donate at their facility in Guaynabo. Just like North America, Puerto Rico sees a decline in blood donations during the pandemic. For hospitals to be fully stocked, they need 250 pints of Rh-positive blood and 100 pints of Rh-negative daily. So, it is crucial to maintain an adequate blood supply.

The blood drive started at 9 a.m. on an appointment-based schedule. Donors began to arrive as more news about the blood drive spread through the radio and other social networks. By dedicating 30 minutes of their time, each donor became a hero who saved three lives! Display panels around the facility explained the Foundation’s work and the importance of blood donation.

The Joy of Helping Others by Donating Blood

After the event, blood donors felt a sense of joy. They were happy to know their blood donation will be making a difference, positively impacting others’ lives. “I hope this reaches the people who need it and to the place where it is most needed,” said Jennifer, a WeLoveU volunteer.

“The motivation to donate blood came from within because I want to help people so that they can benefit from it,” said Luis Boria, a blood donor. “I hope it can save lives; that’s what I want to show.”

The blood drive in Guaynabo lasted approximately six hours in which 77 pints of blood were collected, saving 231 lives! The WeLoveU Foundation and Mutual Services Blood Bank volunteers worked together to donate love by donating blood to those in need of blood transfusion. The national blood drive campaign continues to address the dire need for blood supply.

Hello from Vermont! Your agency sounds fantastic. I will be in Rincon in October and would love to donate blood on October 19 if that is possible. Can you help me plan that? So many thanks!!
