Volunteers Revitalize Meyering Park With Alderman Sawyer

The International WeLoveU Foundation partnered with Chicago’s Sixth Ward Alderman Roderick Sawyer and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District to host a community revitalization project. Meyering Park in the Park Manor community received tender love and care on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Rain or shine, the volunteers took on the project of picking up trash, planting over 25 trees, and painting a mural to inspire hope.

Though the day began with rain, nothing could dampen the smiles on each volunteer’s face. At the end of the event, the cleaning and tree planting teams met where the painting action was taking place. The mural depicts the Earth with different elements like trees, footprints, the word “love” in a lightbulb, and the WeLoveU logo. The mural’s main message painted front and center — Better Together — reminds us there is strength in unity.

The revitalization project is part of the WeLoveU Foundation’s Clean WORLD Movement. Starting in 2009, the campaign is the organization’s environmental protection initiative. The word “WORLD” is an acronym that stands for water, oxygen, region, life, and descendants — components of a healthy environment. Coupling the Clean WORLD Movement with Alderman Sawyer’s initiative to revitalize the 6th Ward parks and the Sustainable Development Goals, there was nothing but positivity spreading throughout Meyering Park.

Event organizers hope sprucing up Meyering Park will bring more residents to the space. The WeLoveU volunteers will continue supporting Chicago and sharing a mother’s love through volunteer service.

  1. It was such a fun event! The neighbors even came out and were expressing their thanks and were asking when the next clean-up was so they could join. Can’t wait for the next event!

  2. Participating in this event was alot of fun. It was nice to get together with the community to do something for the environment and especially with all the young people that showed up. Many people are waiting for an opportunity to participate in events like these. I hope to participate in more of these events around the city. Good work guys!

This is so incredible what the WeLoveU Foundation is doing. They did a beautiful job cleaning up the park and the mural is really cool to see. I hope more and more people start to visit the park again as well.

  5. Not only did WeLoveU clean the park but by painting a mural they are also helping to ensure that it remains clean by inspiring those that visit the park 😄

I’m so happy to see this type of good work being done!
