More than 100 volunteers of the International WeLoveU Foundation partnered with the Chicago Parks District to clean Hamilton Park on Sunday, July 18, 2021. In honor of the United Nations declaration of the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, WeLoveU has been hosting cleanups across the U.S. to restore various ecosystems neglected and damaged due to COVID-19.
Roderick Sawyer, the alderman of the 6th Ward, expressed his gratitude to WeLoveU. He said, “I want to thank the WeLoveU Foundation. You could have gone anywhere in the world, and you decided to come here to Englewood to assist us in cleanup efforts, and that is greatly appreciated. So, I want to thank all the staff, volunteers, those that could come out, those that wanted to come out but could not come out, everyone that is making an effort to clean up this park, to make the community nicer, to make the world nicer, cleaner, and better to live in. My undying thanks to you and the WeLoveU organization. I love you, I love all of you, and I want all of you to come back and enjoy the park where you don’t have to work so hard. Thank you, and I appreciate all your efforts!”
The cleanup is part of WeLoveU’s Clean WORLD Movement, an environmental initiative the foundation has carried out since 2009. Volunteers clean up polluted cities, parks, mountains, rivers, and seas, to promote a clean world for present and future generations. Since its inception, WeLoveU’s Clean WORLD Movement has reached 58 countries, with over 1,600 cleanups and more than 250,000 participants.
