The International WeLoveU Foundation partnered with Luminis Health – ranked in the Top 3 Best Regional Hospitals in Maryland – to hold a blood drive in Annapolis on Sunday, February 19, 2023.
The two groups joined forces with one goal in mind, saving lives! Through the collective efforts of the WeLoveU volunteers and the Luminis Health staff, 30 pints of blood were collected. Since one pint can save up to three people needing an emergency transfusion, 30 pints of blood can save approximately 90 lives!
The blood drive kicked off at 9:30 a.m. with a group picture to commemorate the experience with the incredible workers at Luminis Health. Then, without wasting time, the donors and staff rolled up their sleeves and got right to work. Each volunteer donning a smile brighter than the one before them, selflessly gave of themselves to help others. As 3 p.m. approached, the donations concluded, and the volunteers wrapped up yet another successful blood drive.
Blood donations are essential to the function of our healthcare system. Without blood donors or blood drives, it could be virtually impossible for many facilities to perform lifesaving procedures. Due to the worldwide impact of the coronavirus, healthcare facilities are overwhelmed, which adds an extra element to the demand for blood donations everywhere. Since blood can’t be manufactured outside the body, donations from people are the lifeline for those most in need.
The blood drive is part of WeLoveU’s health initiative and aligns with Sustainable Development Goal #3, Good Health and Well-being. In particular, the event in Annapolis marked WeLoveU’s 485th Worldwide Blood Drive. Through blood drives like in this case with Luminus Health and many other activities promoting the health and well-being of all people, WeLoveU will continue serving communities to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors who live there.

I love this organization! Everyone is always so helpful and happy. My jaw always hurts from laughing so much. Thankfully the arm stick didn’t hurt at all. Can’t wait for the next event!
