50 Volunteers Clean Utah’s Jordan River Shoreline for World Environment Day

Fifty WeLoveU volunteers cleaned the Jordan River Shoreline in West Valley City, UT, for World Environment Day on Sunday, June 12, 2022. The Jordan River runs 50 miles through Salt Lake City and is home to many wildlife. The Jordan River Shoreline is a precious place for the environment and community as families gather to relax, walk, bike, and enjoy time together. Although the shoreline is important, it’s been in bad condition because of the trash accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic. The WeLoveU volunteers decided to take action and clean the Jordan River Shoreline. They filled trash bags with litter they found, like masks, weeds, and dead trees. In total, the volunteers collected 2,000 pounds of trash.

Considering Others

The volunteers were moved to carry out the cleanup, thinking about the people in the community and how the shoreline would affect their happiness. “It’s important to keep it clean because the Jordan River runs 50 miles through Salt Lake City. It is such a central part of the city where so many people come every day. It’s important to keep it clean, environmentally sound, and beautiful so that people can enjoy coming here.” said WeLoveU volunteer Cassandra Todd.

A Bigger Picture

WeLoveU volunteers carried out cleanups in various states in honor of World Environment Day as a part of their broader initiative — the Clean WORLD Movement. The word “WORLD” is an acronym for — Water, Oxygen, Region, Life, and Descendants. WeLoveU looks forward to continuing its efforts in the state of Utah. The International WeLoveU Foundation believes that a mother’s love is essential to promote change and bring hope to the world. Through this event, the organization aims to sustain the environment and share the love that transcends race, nationality, and religion.
