Volunteers Unite to Clean Harambee Park in Boston for Earth Day

On Sunday, April 28, 2024, in Boston, MA, 84 WeLoveU volunteers and guests met at Harambee Park for a cleanup. In collaboration with State Rep. Russell Holmes, the cleanup initiative marked a collective homage to Earth Day. Recognizing the importance of preserving green spaces amidst urban life, volunteers aimed to restore Harambee Park to its pristine state. Nestled in the heart of Boston, Harambee Park serves as a cherished recreational hub for locals. However, the city’s bustling activity often leaves the park strewn with litter and debris, necessitating community action to ensure its upkeep.

Cleanup Endeavors

Dividing into six teams, volunteers methodically tackled various areas of the 45-acre park, including playgrounds, basketball courts, and walkways. Their efforts yielded an impressive haul of 51 bags of waste, alongside larger items like a metal chain-link fence and a hefty tractor tire, totaling 310 pounds of collected debris.

Recognition and Gratitude

After the cleanup, State Representative Russell Holmes lauded WeLoveU’s dedication to community enhancement. Presenting a citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Holmes commended the organization’s pivotal role in fostering positive change within Dorchester. He said, “It’s my honor to host the 84 WeLoveU volunteers to Harambee Park. Your service today will be invaluable and a blessing to my community.”

Afterwards, volunteers and attendees gathered for a vibrant Family Earth Day Event. Amidst laughter and camaraderie, participants engaged in an array of educational and recreational activities, from sports to eco-friendly workshops, reinforcing the importance of environmental stewardship.

Continued Commitment

As the WeLoveU Clean WORLD Movement gains momentum, the event exemplified the organization’s steadfast commitment to fostering cleaner, safer communities worldwide. With plans for future cleanups and community initiatives, WeLoveU remains dedicated to its mission of global environmental responsibility.
