50 Volunteers Sweep the Streets of Odessa, TX

In honor of World Environment Day, around 50 volunteers from the International WeLoveU Foundation came together on Sunday, June 12, 2022. On that day, El Paso and Lubbock volunteers met in Odessa, TX, to host a cleanup in partnership with Keep Odessa Beautiful.

This volunteer service was to encourage volunteers worldwide to clean in their region. Despite the temperatures reaching 100 degrees, the volunteers began at the Tripp Avenue and North I-20 intersection around 10 a.m. At that time, everyone split up into two groups and started cleaning. Volunteers worked together to pick up every bit of trash they could find, such as bottles, plastic cups, tires, and paper. Some volunteers went between both groups to pick up the accumulated trash bags.

Drivers passing by the cleanup were waving and honking, encouraging the volunteers. Seeing all the smiling faces reassured the volunteers that they were creating a positive atmosphere for the community. As a result, they collected more than 100 bags, almost equivalent to 3,000 lbs. of waste, within a 2-mile stretch.

Even though Odessa, TX, seems small on the U.S. map, many people travel through this area. Cleanups like these are essential, and the volunteers meet, believing they’re creating a change in the community. WeLoveU hopes the street cleanup will encourage the community to keep the area clean and participate in upcoming volunteer service activities.

The WeLoveU Foundation holds cleanups nationwide and internationally. Read about more cleanups on the Activities page and check out our international work. WeLoveU will continue working to build a cleaner and sustainable future for humankind. Through this, we are trying to create a pleasant and bright environment for all our neighbors.

Woah! Over 50 smiling volunteers in 100 degree weather, gathering about 3,000 lbs of trash? That’s crazy! Thank you so much for doing this. It means so much. Not just to Odessa, but to the global village as a whole.

  2. I can definitely tell these volunteers really put in the hard work! You all are definitely making a difference. Thank you for sacrificing your time and effort in the hot weather to making sure our community is beautiful.
