100 New Castle Students Start School Year With New Backpacks

On Thursday, August 24, 2023, the International WeLoveU Foundation donated backpacks and school supplies to 100 students at Harry O. Eisenberg Elementary School in New Castle, Delaware.

The efforts support the International WeLoveU Foundation’s education program: “Closing the Homework Gap: Packs on Backs & Tools for Schools.” The program has helped bridge the educational gap for over 3,000 students in 2023, ensuring all students have the necessary tools to succeed. The goal is to continue to expand the program and provide more students with access to essential resources. In 2023, the International WeLoveU Foundation will donate backpacks to schools in California, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Providing backpacks and school supplies aligns with Sustainable Development Goal #4, Quality Education.

The United States House of Representatives Outreach Representative Shania Trammell attended the event. She helped distribute backpacks and school supplies to the students and families. Ms. Trammell said, “…it is very important to children because of the financial burden.” WeLoveU volunteer Beatrice Ngigi added, “The backpacks and school supplies help the children the most this time of the year.” It was evident many families and teachers were grateful for WeLoveU’s donation ceremony.

The School’s Need for Packs on Backs

The Colonial School District operates 15 public schools serving 9,795 students, including Harry O. Eisenberg Elementary School. Eisenberg is a Title One school that receives financial assistance to aid low-income households.

Harry O. Eisenberg Elementary School students qualify 100% for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Principal David Distler was ecstatic to partner with the WeLoveU Foundation. As a result, 18 volunteers delivered the essential school supplies with big smiles and with a mother’s love.
