The Intl. WeLoveU Foundation Donates New Winter Coats to Help Newburgh Children and Families in Need

[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE]

NEW WINDSOR, NY — On Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., the International WeLoveU Foundation (WeLoveU) held a donation ceremony at WeLoveU’s Community Building in New Windsor, NY to donate new winter coats to children in need. Donation ceremonies will also take place this month for students at elementary schools in low-income communities in Harlem, New Jersey, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. The WeLoveU volunteers distributed warm coats, hats, gloves, and scarves for children and families living in poverty or experiencing homelessness. Leading up to the event, WeLoveU volunteers held dozens of clothing drives at locations throughout various communities such as schools, libraries, workplaces, community centers, and more.

“This year’s coat drive is needed now more than ever,” expressed Carly Adames, a volunteer coordinator of WeLoveU educational programs. “Countless families are feeling the economic burdens caused by the rapid rise in inflation. WeLoveU hopes to alleviate that burden even a little bit and is committed to keeping children warm this winter.”

Statistics reflect that around 30% of children in fourth grade or younger are living below the poverty line in New York. The National Center for Homeless Education reported 1.5 million students in public school districts experience homelessness each year. With the winter weather approaching, children are more susceptible to developing hypothermia or infections like pneumonia. The winter season can also be expensive for families, and the economic crisis has exacerbated people’s budgets. In response to such a challenging time, WeLoveU’s coat donation hopes to provide children with an equal opportunity to receive resources for a warmer winter, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #1, No Poverty, and Goal #3, Good Health and Well-being. About the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation

Founder and Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah established the International WeLoveU Foundation in 2001— which is associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UN DGC) — as a vehicle to deliver a mother’s love to neighbors in need. The Chairwoman took a grassroots approach by personally interacting with and caring for the needs of people in her community and her efforts inspired the spirit of volunteerism into the hearts of many. Twenty years later, through the initiatives of emergency relief, education, health, environment, and community well-being, over 300,000 volunteers in more than 50 countries inspire a healthy and hopeful future for many.
