WeLoveU Volunteers Beat the Heat and Clean Ventura Avenue

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, 61 WeLoveU volunteers in California partnered with Beautify Fresno as part of World Environment Day. Despite temperatures reaching the 90s, the volunteers came to Ventura Avenue early to beat the sweltering heat and clean the surrounding streets.

Trash, Trash, and Not Trash

Ventura Avenue had overwhelming amounts of trash because, so collecting the trash was no easy feat. The volunteers collected a whopping 64 bags of trash in total! However, the efforts were not limited to collecting trash. Tires, mattresses, furniture, and a washing machine were also collected.

Making Every Effort

Volunteers made every effort to participate as some drove long distances to come and help. Despite the long-distance drive, volunteers were happy to be part of such a good cause. “It was a chance to take a break from our daily lives for a little bit. Coming out to help clean and support the neighborhood and community with the WeLoveU Foundation took my mind off my problems and worries,” said WeLoveU volunteer Justin Allen.

A United Cause

This event was part of the Clean WORLD Movement, where cleanups are happening in various locations with a united purpose. Through today’s cleanup, WeLoveU is advancing the 17 SDGs and helping Beautify Fresno pick up one million pounds of trash in 2022.

When everybody works together, more good things can happen in the community. WeLoveU volunteer Lorena Ward put it perfectly: “I learned how the community gets together and how much they care for each other. This is a very wonderful way to show everybody that together we can do more than expected.”
