WeLoveU Meets Cabo Verde President José Maria Neves & First Lady Débora Katsita Carvalho

While in Cabo Verde for the Interregional Preparatory Meeting for SIDS, the WeLoveU representatives met President Neves at the Presidential Palace on Thursday, August 31, 2023. While learning about the Foundation, President Neves agreed with Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah’s message that “love is needed, now, more than ever.” The collaborative discussion between the two parties led to thought-provoking conversations about how to support the residents of Cabo Verde. Soon, conversations evolved into action.

Conversations Quickly Evolve Into Action

Rather than returning to Cabo Verde to help, WeLoveU volunteers present for the conference acted immediately. The next day, the team planned a backpack donation at a local school in Praia. On the morning of the backpack donation, the WeLoveU representatives met Cabo Verde First Lady Débora Katisa Morais Brazão Carvalho on Friday, September 1, 2023.

The First Lady expressed her concerns regarding her country and her vision for the future. One of her main priorities is the people who call Cabo Verde home. Like WeLoveU, she wishes all residents to have the necessary resources for quality education and a healthy environment. “Poor countries are the first victims of the consequences of global warming, which is an injustice. We do not cause it, but we are often the most affected. We, women, have the transformative power for a more harmonious, greener world,” said the First Lady when speaking at the Women United Foundation where she serves as an advisory board cultural ambassador.

After more discussions with First Lady Carvalho, the WeLoveU Foundation agreed to organize a beach cleanup on the upcoming Sunday at Gamboa.

  1. It’s great to see the outreach of the International WeLoveU Foundation, the Chairwoman’s efforts are very impressive, also it also promotes a better future.

  2. It’s so true that countries with less significant economical resources face such disparities, compared to other regions when dealing with the consequences of global warming. It really is so touching that WeLoveU spreads their efforts across all sectors to share love in a world where love really is needed more than ever. I hope this year that domestically and internationally, WeLoveU can work with nations to make the world a better place!
