On September 15, 2024, the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation partnered with the American Red Cross for a united blood drive. The event spanned three cities: Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. This special blood drive celebrated 20 years of WeLoveU’s life-saving efforts, held during Hispanic Heritage Month and Sickle Cell Awareness Month.
The Los Angeles event, held at the Marriott Hotel in Marina Del Rey, marked WeLoveU’s 675th blood drive. Philadelphia’s drive took place at Philly Live, while the Atlanta drive was hosted at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Together, these drives collected hundreds of pints of blood to help patients in need.
Los Angeles Drive Collects 221 Pints of Blood
The Los Angeles blood drive had an impressive turnout, with 400 WeLoveU volunteers donating blood. They collected 140 whole blood donations and 38 power reds, totaling 221 pints. This amount of blood could save up to 663 lives. The donations are critical for people with conditions like sickle cell disease, which affects Hispanic and African American communities.
Community Leaders and Celebrities Join the Effort
Several well-known figures attended the Los Angeles event, including former NBA player Derek Fisher and former MLB pitcher Ron Mahay. Miss Nevada, Shalini Sasha Quattlebaum, also participated. Local leaders like Angie Reyes, a Council Member for the City of Hawthorne, and Stephanie A. Stone, District Deputy of Staff for Congresswoman Nanette Barragan, showed their support.
Derek Fisher praised the WeLoveU Foundation, saying, “We’re all one team, one community, here in service for each other.” His words reflected the day’s spirit of unity and collaboration.

I had the pleasure of attending this blood drive. It was so refreshing being around so many positive people who really genuinely care about the community and the world. They are so active in all areas, helping and spreading love and encouragement to people everywhere. I have never seen an organization like this one and am so happy to now be a part of it!
The fact that this blood drive was held at 3 different Cities of the the US simultaneously is awesome! So proud to be a part of this organization and glad I was healthy enough to donate double red donation to save even more lives!
