The Intl. WeLoveU Foundation Donates Over 100 Backpacks to Anderson-Livsey Elementary School

The International WeLoveU Foundation kicked off the school year with a special delivery. On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, volunteers supplied backpacks and other various supplies to 105 students at Anderson-Livsey Elementary School in Snellville, GA. The donations equipped students with everything they needed to succeed. Principal Joanne Vigilant, Board Chair and District 4 Representative Mr. Blair Everton, District 4 Cluster Superintendent Dr. Melissa Walker, the Chairperson for the Board of Education Dr. Tarece Johnson, and the school’s various teachers attended the donation ceremony.

Children Are Successful When Everyone Comes Together

The end of summer signals back-to-school shopping for many families, but this is a time that often places a heavy financial burden on parents. Many expect to go into debt to obtain the supplies their children need. That is why the help of volunteer organizations is crucial. Principal Vigilant expressed that having the necessary tools is the foundation for education. Vigilant said, “A lot of the students at Anderson-Livsey come from disenfranchised homes, and for them, this means a lot. This is a day they won’t forget. About three of my students shed tears of joy today because they’ve never had anything like this done for them before.” The volunteers touched the hearts of countless students and faculty members at the ceremony.

Dr. Melissa Walker described her experience at the donation ceremony as “energizing, invigorating, and affirming.” She expressed the importance of Anderson-Livsey’s partnerships with organizations that provide support. “Students and families need support beyond just the physical tools. They also need to know that someone cares about them and that they are recognized and valued for who they are, and that they know people are supporting them along the journey for their education.”

Following the speaker’s remarks, the students sang a song for the volunteers and guests, greeting them with “hello” in different languages. When volunteers distributed the backpacks, students accepted them with excitement, dawning joyful smiles. The donation at Anderson-Livsey Elementary School is part of WeLoveU’s education program, Closing the Homework Gap: Packs on Backs and Tools for Schools campaign. WeLoveU will continue partnering with schools to close the income and achievement gap and bring happiness to students, looking forward to a bright future.
