On Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, 64 volunteers and 15 children gathered at Mountainview Park in Middlesex, New Jersey, for a tree-planting event to improve the local environment. Organized by the International WeLoveU Foundation with SHI and the Black Culture Collectives, the group planted 15 trees, including maples, oaks, and birches, along with 10 shrubs near the park entrance. Part of WeLoveU’s Mom’s Garden Project, the event supports the foundation’s goal to plant one million trees by 2026 to help reach carbon neutrality by 2050. This was WeLoveU’s second tree-planting collaboration with SHI in 2024, highlighting their shared commitment to environmental improvement. At the same time, volunteers planted seed balls with SHI corporate volunteers in Austin, TX.
This project not only beautifies the park but also supports New Jersey’s “Beautifying the Highways” program, aimed at replacing dead shrubs and restoring landscapes affected by aging trees over the past decade. John Tackach, Sanitation Lead from the Department of Public Works, praised the effort, saying it unites the community to improve public spaces. During the Mom’s Garden Project event, volunteers enjoyed planting new trees and shrubs, while kids participated in face painting, volleyball, kickball, and fun at the children’s park.
Enhancing Community Spaces With SHI and the Black Culture Collective
David Johnson, Director of Emerging Partners and Co-Chair of the Black Culture Collectives, highlighted the project’s lasting impact: “I think paying it forward is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Years from now, we’ll be here with friends and family, knowing we contributed to this space.”
Elena Perez, an Inside Account Executive in Public Sector at SHI, echoed his sentiment, saying the event’s influence extends beyond the park itself. “It will inspire people who share their experience with others, creating a snowball effect that encourages more participation,” she noted. The WeLoveU team welcomed every volunteer, fostering community spirit and purpose. Together, they are planting seeds for a greener, more vibrant future in Middlesex.

Planting a tree is planting hope for generations. Each seed sown, each tree nurtured, shapes a future where the air is cleaner, the earth is greener, and lives grow stronger. Your efforts today will shade and shelter lives yet to come. Thank you so much.
This dynamic collaboration between SHI and WLU volunteers demonstrates the power of unity and collective effort, driving meaningful change in our community.
Looking forward to more partnership in 2025!
Beautifully done by WeLoveU Volunteers! Keep doing what you’re doing!
